Safety

With increased UV application work ahead this summer, we wanted to share some critical safety reminders to help protect you and your team.

Immediate Action Items for Your Workspace:

Recent workplace safety data shows that UV-related eye injuries spike during busy summer months, yet every single incident is preventable with proper protocols. When using your Spectro-UV® equipment, these steps are non-negotiable:

·    Equipment Check: Inspect all UV-rated safety goggles and face shields for cracks, scratches, or worn elastic bands. Damaged equipment provides inadequate protection and should be replaced immediately.

·    Standards Compliance: Ensure all protective gear meets current ANSI Z87+, CE EN 166, U6 (Clear model only) standards. Older equipment may not provide adequate protection against modern UV intensities.

·    Team Training: Brief all staff on proper donning procedures – protective equipment must be in place BEFORE activating any UV light source.

·    Environmental Safety: Maintain proper ventilation and ensure all team members cover exposed skin when UV equipment is operational.

Why This Matters Now

UV radiation causes serious corneal and retinal damage that can develop within hours of exposure. Symptoms like conjunctivitis and photokeratitis are not just uncomfortable – they can signal permanent vision damage that impacts both personal wellbeing and professional capability.
